As recent news stories have made clear, LGBTQ elders face disturbing levels of harassment and discrimination from care providers. Representative Elizabeth Malia and Senator Patricia Jehlen have introduced HD3566/SD1272, An Act relative to LGBT awareness training for aging services providers, to help improve the lives and well-being of our elders. This bill would require the Executive Office of Elder Affairs to develop a curriculum and training program for the delivery of accessible and appropriate services to LGBTQ older adults and their caregivers.
You can help this bill gain important early support by urging your state legislators to sign on as co-sponsors. The deadline to co-sponsor this bill is Thursday, February 2, 2017. Legislators interested in co-sponsoring the bill can contact Rep. Malia's Chief of Staff, Natalie Kaufman, at firstname.lastname@example.org or Sen. Jehlen's Senior Policy Director, Victoria Halal, at email@example.com.
Don't know who your state legislators are? Visit wheredoivotema.com and enter your street address to find their names and contact information. Then call your legislator's office, and urge them to co-sponsor the LGBTQ elder services training bill.
Thank you for helping us ensure that our elders can receive appropriate, supportive care! Please share this with your friends-the more people who contact their elected state officials about this bill, the more likely they are to co-sponsor and support it.
